The Juniper Arts Council has chosen three local nonprofits to receive $500 each from the John and Linda Shelk Foundation Community Grant Program for 2014.
The organizations and their objectives are:
• Cinnabar Mountain Playdays: To cover the cost of the Mt. Vernon group’s mandatory insurance premium.
• Grant School District No. 3: To be used toward the purchase of an automatic timing system, required for major track and field events, for the district’s new eight-lane track.
• Prairie City FFA: To be used toward the FFA greenhouse, which is in need of some upkeep, and supplies.
The Arts Council received 11 grant applications for consideration this year, and will have another round of applications to distribute the remaining $4,500 in this year’s grant program.
Spring applications will be available Feb. 1-28, from the group’s Facebook page, and also at Karin Barntish’s office, 131 W. Main St., John Day.
Grant funds will be awarded in March.
