Grant County must have been good this year because Santa Claus is bringing a season full of fun, festive events.

Here’s the schedule of holiday happenings, with something sure to please everyone:

Free community Thanksgiving dinner

• 1-4 p.m., John Day Elks Lodge

A free holiday meal with all the fixings will be offered. People are welcome to bring a dessert or side dish to share, if they wish. There will be board games to enjoy afterward, as well as football games playing on the big screen TV. The bar will not be open. Home deliveries will be available for homebound folks in John Day, Canyon City, Mt. Vernon and Prairie City. People are needed to help with preparations, cleanup and meal deliveries. Free community Thanksgiving dinner

• 1 p.m., Teen Center, Prairie City

All are welcome to a free, traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings. For more information, or to arrange for a ride, call Prairie Baptist Church at 541-820-3696.

Black Friday Bazaar

• 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., The Outpost Restaurant.

The third annual bazaar features Tupperware, Scentsy, Style Dots, Thirty One Gifts and other items.

21st annual Carrie Young Memorial silent auction, dinner

• 5:30 p.m., John Day Elks Lodge

This is the 21st year for the event that benefits several senior groups in Grant County: Blue Mountain Care Center, Valley View Assisted Living, Bear Valley Assisted Living, Chesley’s Elderberry House and homebound seniors throughout the county. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the by-donation spaghetti dinner starts at 6 p.m. Auction items are needed for the silent auction which is held during the dinner. Light up a Life

• 6:30 p.m., Valley View Assisted Living, John Day

All are welcome to the annual candlelight remembrance of loved ones, offered by Blue Mountain Hospice. The event includes readings, music and refreshments. Valley View is at 112 N.W. Valley View Dr. A contribution of $10 is suggested for a symbolic light in memory of a loved one. Seneca School program

• 7 p.m., Seneca School gym

Theme is “Christmas Around the World”

Festival of Children

• 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Trowbridge Pavilion, Grant County Fairgrounds

Activities include crafts, ornament making, photos with Santa, silent auction fundraiser, snacks and more. Admission per person is $2 or two nonperishable food items for the food bank. Call the Grant County office of Oregon State University Extension at 541-575-1911 for more information.

Festival of Trees

• 5 p.m., Trowbridge Pavilion, Grant County Fairgrounds

Tree viewing begins at 5 p.m., with dinner starting at 6 p.m. The evening includes entertainment, an “ugly sweater” contest, and the live auction of decorated trees and wreaths, desserts, and other items. All proceeds from the two festivals goes to the Tree of Giving, Grant County Food Bank, Families First Parent Resource Center, 4-H Youth Camp scholarships and The Backpack Program. Timber Truckers Light Parade

• 6 p.m., streets of John Day

This year’s theme is “Tis the Lights Before Christmas.” One change this year for interested entrants is that ATVs are allowed but not motorcycles. Following the parade will be a dinner and awards ceremony at the John Day Elks Lodge. For more information, call Leslie Traylor, 541-620-4032.

5th annual Heart of Grant County concert

• 7 p.m., United Methodist Church

Talented musicians offer performances in the annual holiday event, which includes refreshments. Admission is $5 a person or $10 per family. Call 541-575-4335 for more information.
