MT. VERNON – The Cinnabar Mountain Playdays wrapped up a busy 2014 rodeo season with a potluck dinner and awards ceremony Oct. 19 at the Mt Vernon Community Hall.

Many of the awards were made by local artists and crafters. First place honorees received a buckle by Lonestar Silversmiths, second place received a leather breast collar by Clair Kehrberg Fine Leather Art of John Day, third place received spurs by Lonestar Silversmiths, fourth place received a saddle rack made by Jake Taylor, fifth place received bronc halters by R Bar D Leather of Prairie City, and sixth place received a nylon rope bag embroidered by Mary Ann Vidourek of Canyon City.

The Tough Enough to Wear Pink Basket drawing winner was Amy Kreger, and $200 raised in the raffle will be going to the Blue Mountain Hospital mammography department.

Over the past few years the club has grown to involve more youth – this year more than 60 participated.

In addition to riding their horses and ponies in the Playdays, the members participated in many other community events: helping with the Bull Riding event and the grand entry of the Grant County NPRA rodeo, riding in the Grant County Fair and Rodeo Parade, and sponsoring a wild goat milking event at the Ranch Bronc Riding. They also plan an entry for the Timber Truckers Light Parade.

“It really takes a great community to support these kids and provide them with such an amazing opportunity. The volunteer time and donations that keep this club going is truly appreciated by so many people” said Mitch Gregg, outgoing club president.

Also at the banquet, a new board of directors was elected including: president, Didgette McCracken; vice president, Nicole Israel; treasurer, Emma Winkelman; secretary, Janet Plocharsky; and directors Scott Moore, Shilo Burton, Justin Jacobs, and Melanie Kimball.

Anyone interested in getting involved can contact a board member or find us on Facebook at Cinnabar Mountain Playdays.
