JOHN DAY – A hunter education class will begin next Monday at Grant Union Junior-Senior High School in the library.

Classes will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings for two weeks. The first class starts at 6 p.m., the rest bat 6:30 p.m., and all classes will run two to two and a half hours.

The course culminates with a field day live shoot at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 7.

Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife sets a $10 fee per student, but the fee may be waived in certain circumstances.

Oregon requires anyone under the age of 18 to successfully complete the course to hunt wildlife, unless it is on their own land. In addition, all ages planning to hunt as non-residents in other states may be required to have a hunter education card.

People can enroll for the class in advance at Ace Hardware, John Day True Value Hardware, the local ODFW office or other ODFW license sales outlets.

For more information, call Bryan Nelson at 541-575-1808, ODFW at 541-575-1167, or Lynn Comini at 541-575-0952.
