The Canyon Creek Complex fire has grown to 40,100 acres, and fire activity has increased on the south flank.

The fire is 3,000 acres larger than it was Sunday, and no containment is in sight.

Firefighting aircraft will be used aggressively to keep the fire in check, according to a U.S. Forest Service update.

Fire managers on Monday expected weather similar to Sunday’s weather, but they were concerned that winds could pick up. Firefighters continued working to strengthen fire lines in the north.

Additional firefighting resources are arriving from around the state and country. More than 300 firefighters are currently assigned,

On Sunday, air tankers and helicopters supported hand crews as they worked digging fire line in terrain too rugged for bulldozers. Late in the afternoon, air tankers were diverted to a new fire that was burning nearby, and helicopters continued fight the fire.

Structural firefighters worked to protect homes and to determine the number of houses lost to the fire during the extreme wind event that occurred Aug. 14. Fire activity increased on the southern portion of the fire, near Dry Soda Lookout. Firefighters worked through the night to protect houses and to reinforce the fire line.
