JOHN DAY — The current wildfire is a reminder of the importance of animal identification, and John Day River Veterinary Center will offer discounts on animal microchipping during the next two weeks.
JDRVC will offer $15 off the service, resulting in a cost of $30 per animal. Dogs, cats and even horses and birds can be microchipped.
“Microchips are a permanent form of identification that have aided many animals in returning home whether lost while camping, hunting, herding or during an evacuation,” said Julie Stafford, a veterinarian at the center.
Owners of microchipped animals can go online and list their contact information. Animals that are picked up by animal control, police or citizens and brought to any vet clinic or animal control, are scanned for microchips, and the company is called. The owner’s contact information is used to help reunite them with their animal.
