New fire found northeast of Prairie City

A new fire has broken out 13 miles northeast of Prairie City, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Estimated at 15 acres, the fire, called the Frog Pond Fire, is about 3.5 miles south of Greenhorn.

The cause is unknown.

The blaze was reported at 8:47 p.m. by fixed wing aircraft on the Malheur National Forest. Helicopters are being used to attack the fire, and heavy airtankers have been ordered. Additionally, federal, state, and local resources are responding. This includes five engines, two tenders, two crews, and two dozers.
