KIMBERLY – John Day Fossil Beds National Monument will be celebrating National Fossil Day with special public programs Saturday, October 10.

“National Fossil Day, part of Earth Sciences Week, is a great time to come see the monument” said Monument superintendent Shelley Hall, “We have special activities planned for visitors to see the incredible fossil history we have right here in Eastern Oregon.”

Park Paleontologist Dr. Joshua Samuels will lead a tour of the fossil exhibit at the Thomas Paleontology Center at 10 a.m. and a hike along the Island in Time Trail at Blue Basin at 1 p.m.

“Don’t forget to pick up both Junior Ranger and Junior Paleontologist booklets for both the young and the young at heart. Those who turn in completed booklets will earn badges” adds Ranger Megan Wilkins.

Everyone is encouraged to come and enjoy any of the activities.
