Elks Club members honor veterans with ceremony

JOHN DAY — The John Day Elks Lodge marked Veterans Day with a solemn service at Seventh Street Complex in remembrance of those who have served in our nation’s military.

John Day Elks Exalted Ruler Tom Winters led the short ceremony, with past Elks state president Carl Lino offering prayers and other Elks Lodge leaders assisting.

About 40 people attended the event.

Members of American Legion Ellis Tracy Post 77 of John Day were on hand for the salute, followed by Ed Heiple playing “Taps” on trumpet to conclude the service.

The community was invited to a free lunch of stew and cornbread at the Lodge after the ceremony.
