Joann Johnson, 93, of Mt. Vernon died March 9 at the Elderberry House in John Day. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at Driskill Memorial Chapel in John Day, with interment at the Canyon City Cemetery. A reception will follow at the John Day American Legion Hall.

Johnson was born July 20, 1922, in Fossil, to Carl and Alice Hibner Iremonger.
She attended school in Wheeler County and graduated in 1940.
On March 9, 1942, she married Elmer Johnson in Stevenson, Wash.

She enjoyed gardening, working on the farm, feeding birds and following high school athletic teams and the Portland Trailblazers. She was a member of the Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary since 1946.
Her greatest accomplishments were raising four boys and helping out on the ranch, as well as being active in the America Legion Auxiliary on the election board for several years.
Survivors include her sons, Lester (Georgene) Johnson of Enterprise, Robert (Teresa) Johnson of Princeton, Donald (Heidi) Johnson of Germany and Larry (Debbie) Johnson of Joseph; 19 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Johnson.
