John Day City Council members opted not to require permits for people renting rooms in their homes during the solar eclipse.

City Manager Nick Green said requiring special permits would likely require home inspections. He said the council voted unanimously against requiring the special permits for room rentals at the July 26 regular City Council meeting.

Green said temporary use permits will still be required for people selling concessions. People interested in learning more about any permits required can contact City Hall at 541-575-0028.

The July 26 meeting was the first John Day City Council meeting in its new location at the fire hall. The council meets at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays each month in the conference room at the new John Day Fire Station on South Canyon Boulevard.
