- Logan Cloyd of Pendleton pulls his younger siblings and cousins in Friday's Kids Day Parade in John Day, including (from left) Lily Spell, 7, of Newberg; Gavin Cloyd, 8; Beckett Spell, 3; and Claire Spell, 9. Ten-year-old Abigail Cloyd was also in the wagon. The children have been visiting grandparents Jim and Beth Spell of John Day.
There were 20 children in the spotlight Friday afternoon, “starring” in their own Kids Day Parade in downtown John Day.
Some kids rode their bikes and trikes, others were pulled in wagons or pushed in strollers.
Siblings Blake, 3, and Brooklynn Kimball, 5, of John Day rode horseback, led by their mom Danielle Kimball and Rowdy Israel.
All the participants received a ribbon and a Dairy Queen token, and many took a break from the heat for an ice cream after the parade.
The event was sponsored by Dairy Queen and radio station KJDY.
Kids in the parade are invited to return the next day to take part in the Grant County Fair parade, which begins at 10 a.m. in John Day.
