Blue Mountain Care Center took first place in Dayville's scarecrow contest this year.

Residents of Dayville, and visitors, will soon be welcomed by a host of friendly scarecrows lining the downtown area, during the fourth annual October scarecrow contest.

City officials are asking county residents, including individuals, groups, classes and businesses for entries.

Last year, 12 entries decorated Franklin Street, the main street in town.

The top winners were Blue Mountain Care Center of Prairie City, first place; Prairie Springs Fish Farm of Dayville, second; and Linda Hand of Twisted Treasures and Gnarly Goods in Dayville, third.

Submissions are due Monday, Oct. 3.

Judging will take place later that week, and the scarecrows will be displayed on the lamp posts in town through the month.

Prizes will be awarded during the October Fall Festival, which includes a town potluck at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at the Dayville Community Hall.

To enter the contest, contact city hall at 541-987-2188 or email dville@ortelco.net. A wooden stake will be provided to attach the decoration.
