He plans to compete at the Oct. 22-23 Idaho Cowboys Association rodeo in Caldwell, Idaho.

As of Sept. 25, Finley is 12th in the ICA standings.
Finley’s brother Ty Holly of Mt. Vernon is 13th in the ICA standings and 10th in the NPRA Year End standings, earning $3,863.46. He placed third in calf roping at the Pendleton Round-Up last month.
Holly will compete in the PRCA circuit finals on Nov. 4-6 in Yakima, Washington.
For the brothers, rodeo has been a part of life since they were young.
Finley said it was his grandpa Ben Finley who started the family’s rodeo tradition.
Chad said his grandpa didn’t come from a rodeo family, but was introduced to the sport and competed in Vancouver; he later moved to Mt. Vernon with his wife Donna and the family.
“He made it where we could do what we wanted and got us mounted so we could rodeo,” Chad said. “He taught us all we know and kept us on good horses, growing up, and gave us cattle to practice on.”
Chad added, “He passed it on to us — all my cousins have done rodeo growing up.”
He said he and his brother and their cousin Trisha (Legg) McCoin of Terrebonne continue to compete.
McCoin finished 17th in breakaway roping in the NPRA Year End standings with $2,518.
Chad’s aunts and uncles were also past rodeo competitors — Jeff Finley, Larry Finley, Clay Finley, Cindy (Finley) Legg, as well as his mom Christy Finley.
Chad said he’ll continue to rodeo “as long as I’m able to keep going at it, and as long as I’ve got the horses to do it.”
Other locals competing in rodeo include:
Trevor Knowles, Mt. Vernon, 14th in PRCA World standings, steer wrestling, $58,653.42; 2nd in Columbia River Circuit Standings, $18,555.87
