Which direction for sheriff?

To the Editor:

“Trust, truth, ethics, and law” — that’s the direction we hope that county voters will choose in the sheriff election. Todd McKinley’s statement in last week’s BME says it all. This will be his focus if elected sheriff. It is obvious from his past record that communication, cooperation and public safety will also be priorities. He will communicate with the people of Grant County, as is shown in his willingness to participate in a public debate, answer questions and state his positions honestly. He will cooperate with other agencies to achieve public safety and disaster preparedness.

The current Sheriff does not view these actions as priorities, as reported in numerous articles in local, state and national media: for example, pleading the Fifth Amendment 51 times during a deposition, an ongoing DOJ investigation, meeting with occupiers of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, his large number of special deputies, a false arrest that was settled out of court and deputizing a man awaiting trial on felonies of which he was later convicted.

Search for Sheriff Glenn Palmer on the internet, including Wikipedia. Learn the facts. Connect the dots to see who his supporters are nationwide. Then decide.

Which direction do you want to see Grant County go?
