Kodee Kimball competes in pole bending at a Cinnabar Mountain Playdays rodeo last summer. Kimball finished first in the peewee division for the season.

Youth rodeo contestants wrapped up their Cinnabar Mountain Playdays season with a year-end awards banquet.

Family and friends joined in for the dinner and awards ceremony Oct. 23 at the Mt. Vernon Community Hall.

Youth were awarded for their summer rodeo events held at the Grant County Fairgrounds rodeo arena in John Day.

The cowboys and cowgirls competed in events, including pole bending, figure eight, barrel racing, dummy roping and other contests.

Season results were announced with the top six in each division receiving prizes.

First-place winners received buckles; second, rope cans with leather covers by Clair Kehrberg; third, head stalls by KO Trading; fourth, spurs; fifth, Pendleton blankets with leather CMP corners; and sixth, rope halters by Severe Brothers Saddlery.

Jenna Kelso won the Tough Enough to Wear Pink 50/50 raffle, and door prizes were given to all attending contestants.

“We want to give our thanks to the volunteers who make it happen for the kids,” said board member Didgette McCracken.

This year’s board of directors included: McCracken, Melanie Kimball, Sian Martin, Kristal Hansen, Emma Winkelman, Laura Hopper, Janet Plocharsky and Justin Jacobs.

New and returning board members include: Tasha Marciel, Tiffnie Schmadeka, Terri Hamilton, McCracken, Winkelman and Hansen.
