Avery Lenz, Meghan Rider, Lindsay Bullock and Makaela Hughet have been selected as the recipients of the 2017-2018 Grant County Futures Scholarship, which is awarded by the local College Advisory Board from an endowment of the EOU Foundation. The scholarships will be used for tuition and books for classes taken through Eastern Oregon University or Blue Mountain Community College’s online programs through the Grant County Center.

Lenz is an Eastern Oregon University student working on prerequisites for acceptance into the OHSU bachelor’s degree in nursing in La Grande. Rider and Bullock are both pursuing an Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree from Blue Mountain Community College in order to transfer to EOU. Hughet is working towards an AAS Human Services at Blue Mountain Community College with the goal of transferring to EOU’s Emergency Medical Services Administration degree.

The Grant County College Advisory Board was able to award four scholarships this year due to a large donation from Blue Mountain TV Cable Company, in honor of Jack McKenna. These funds will be invested through the EOU foundation and will be available for local students seeking degrees through the Grant County Center, located in the Grant County ESD at 835 S. Canyon Blvd., John Day.
