June slightly colder than usual

Monument climate data for the month of June.

Temperatures in John Day were slighter colder than usual in June, according to preliminary data received by NOAA’s National Weather Service.

The average temperature was 60.2 degrees, which was 1.3 degrees below normal. High temperatures averaged 75.7 degrees, which was 1.9 degrees below normal. The highest was 95 degrees on June 20. Low temperatures averaged 44.6 degrees, which was 0.8 degrees below normal. The lowest was 34 degrees, on June 5. The temperature exceeded 90 degrees two days.

Precipitation totaled 2.02 inches during June, which was 0.59 inches above normal. Measurable precipitation – at least .01 inch – was received on eight days with the heaviest, 0.57 inches reported on the June 27.

Precipitation this year has reached 7.57 inches, which is 0.15 inches below normal. Since October, the water year precipitation at John Day has been 11.93 inches, which is 0.63 inches above normal.

The highest wind gust was 47 mph which occurred on the June 26.

The outlook for July from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center calls for near- to above-normal temperatures and near-normal precipitation. Normal highs for John Day during July are 88.2 degrees, and normal lows are 49.6 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 0.60 inches.
