An active search and rescue mission near Strawberry Falls has been canceled.

The operation was a false alarm and has been canceled, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

An individual activated a personal locator beacon in the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness, 13 miles south of Prairie City, according to a Sunday afternoon press release from Grant County Sheriff Glenn Palmer.

A ground team had been sent to the Strawberry Falls area, Palmer said in the release, and calls had been made to the Oregon Office of Emergency Management and the Oregon Emergency Response System for a helicopter.
