Grant Union High School’s FFA chapter members collected 200 pounds of canned goods for the Grant County Food Bank in John Day.

Another 120 lbs. of food was collected at Les Schwab Tire Center in John Day.

Grant Union FFA president Kori Jo Girvin said she was glad their group was involved in a positive activity.

“I enjoyed getting our chapter out in the community, and showing who we are and what we’re trying to do,” she said. “It will help our small chapter succeed.”

Les Schwab was one of 70 stores participating in the food drive, store officials said in a Nov. 13 press release.

FFA advisor and Grant Union teacher Adam Ineck said he appreciated those who contributed this year, and they plan to hold the drive again next year.

“I’m continuously amazed at the generosity and the outpouring of community support to participate in activities like this for the benefit of others within the community,” he said. “Things like this are what makes this community a great place to live, work and raise our youth.”

He added, “It’s always good to see young adults actively involved in a positive manner for the betterment of their own community.”
