Angie Jones, a Past Exalted Ruler at the John Day Elks Lodge, prepares stuffing tor the Thanksgiving Day feast. She said they cooked for 300 people and made 56 home deliveries that day. The local Thanksgiving Day program started six years ago and benefited from grants, including the Gratitude Grant, funded from donations by Elk members across the nation. She said about 40 people helped cook the free meal. The local Elks Lodge cooked 10 turkeys and 10 hams, baked 37 pumpkin, cherry, pecan and apple pies, and peeled 100 pounds of potatoes for mashed potatoes. They also baked sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top, she said.
