The league champion Grant Union Prospector volleyball team celebrated their 10th Annual Dig Pink Rally, defeating the Enterprise Outlaws and Pilot Rock Rockets.

Grant Union closed their regular season in the Blue Mountain Conference with the two wins, beating the Outlaws 25-9, 25-16 and 25-10 and the Rockets 25-16, 25-11 and 25-21.

Commenting after the game against Enterprise, Grant Union head coach Ali Abrego said “It’s been a good day. We just sealed the deal on being league champs.”

She said the team was looking to keep their undefeated league record with their game against Pilot Rock, and they went on to gain that victory.

Pilot Rock gave the Prospectors a test in the final set, the teams tying the score several times.

“It’s a long day,” Abrego said. “Pilot Rock is a team that will take it from you if you let them.”

She said it was fun to see the team contribute to the win.

“Our bench is super deep,” she said. “You can put anyone anywhere and get the same results — it’s really a special team.”

Prospector Trinity Hutchison, a senior, said she felt her team played well together for the day, and they anticipate exciting games ahead.

“We’re league champions, and we’re looking forward to taking on some championships this year,” she said.

Prospector Hailie Wright said it felt great to gain the league victory.

“We worked hard all season to get where we are now,” she said, adding the team has big shoes to fill after last year’s win at state.

“We need to keep rolling,” she said.

Grant Union will host the 1A Crane Mustangs Tuesday with junior varsity games starting at 5 p.m.

The Prospectors compete at the Blue Mountain Conference District Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 20, in Stanfield.
