Prescribed burn taking place near Flagtail Lookout
Published 9:53 am Wednesday, October 17, 2018
With the necessary conditions continuing for prescribed fire operations, crews are in various phases of active prescribed fire operations on several planned units across the Forest. On the Blue Mountain Ranger District, crews are conducting ignition in the Murderer’s Creek Unit, near Flagtail Lookout. Smoke will be visible in the surrounding area of operations.
Fire personnel have worked closely in accordance with State Smoke Management Plans to insure that smoke impacts on the local communities are minimized. As compared to wildfires, prescribed fires are shorter in duration and are conducted under weather conditions to minimize the impacts of smoke on the public.
Smoke may reduce visibility on local roadways near burning operations. Signs are posted notifying drivers they are entering an area of prescribed fire activity. Please exercise care when driving in smoky, lower-visibility conditions.
Information regarding prescribed burning locations can be found on the Malheur National Forest Prescribed Fire Activity interactive map at http://arcg.is/2wUZIil.
