The Grant Union Prospector boys and girls golf teams, led by head coach Ron Lundbom, completed their season at the boys and girls district tournaments Monday-Tuesday, May 5-6, at the Pendleton Country Club.

The Grant Union boys competed in Special District 4 for 3A/2A/1A.

La Grande won the tournament with Baker/Powder Valley in second. Braden Bell of La Grande won the event as an individual.

During the final minutes of the competition, the Prospector boys were in fourth place by one stroke, Lundbom said by phone.

“Most had good holes,” he said, but their scoring was inconsistent. He said one or two big-number holes was their downfall.

Prospector Devon Stokes, on Thursday, said he improved his game since the last time he competed at the course on April 5.

He said, at the district competition, he shot consistently both days.

“It wasn’t my best day, but it definitely wasn’t my worst,” he said.

“It was a good experience — not the outcome we wished for — but next year, that’s my goal is to make it as an individual and as a team to state.”

Stokes competed with teammates Garrett Lenz, Maverick Miller, Parker Manitsas and Logan Namitz.

For the girls, Kaytlyn Wells, Emily Springer, Maddy Way and Billy Radinovich competed as a team for Grant Union at the Special District 4 tournament for 4A/3A/2A/1A teams.

Heppner/Ione/Arlington won the event, with La Grande in second and Baker/Powder Valley in third.

Tori Suto of Wallowa/Joseph was the winner.

Wells, on Thursday, said she improved her game by a few strokes during the second day of the competition.

“I’m really excited for next year already,” she said. “I’m glad Ron was our coach, and I’m happy to have the people on my team that would help me.”

She said all the road trips together throughout the season with the Prospector boys and girls were fun.

“We all got along really well,” she said.
