John Day Elks Lodge 1824 member Angie Jones is seeking helpers for the free Community Thanksgiving Dinner scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 28.
Jones said she’s enjoyed seeing the community gather for the event, as she’s organized the meal for the past nine years.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for people who want to volunteer,” said Jones.
Assistance is needed for the morning meal preparation and cooking, then set up, serving, meal deliveries and clean up.
The meal is served from 1-4 p.m. at the Lodge, located at 140 NE Dayton St. in John Day with turkey, ham, real mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, rolls, stuffing, cranberries and pies.
Last year, over 300 meals were served, Jones said, adding it takes about 40 volunteers to run the event.
For more information or to volunteer, call the Lodge at 541-575-1824 or Jones at 541-620-4741.
For those who would like a Thanksgiving meal but can’t get out of the house and would like a delivery, call the Lodge.
