The Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife Division is asking the public to help solve a pair of poaching cases in Grant County.
Both cases involve the unlawful taking of trophy-class mule deer bucks.
On Nov. 10, a trooper responded to the Mt. Vernon area to investigate a report of a headless buck carcass along the highway. The deer did not show signs of being road-struck, and only the head had been removed. The reporting party had a photo of the buck before it was killed, showing a distinctive set of antlers.
The same day, troopers responded to the Murderers Creek hunt unit to investigate a report of a freshly killed mule deer buck that had been left to waste. The reporting party found the carcass while it was still warm and flexible about 11 a.m. Witnesses reported seeing a dark-colored Dodge pickup in the area several times.
Anyone with information about either of these cases is asked to contact the Fish & Wildlife Division by phone at 800-452-7888, by text at *677 or by email at TIP@state.or.us. Reference the appropriate case number, SP21316638 (Mt. Vernon) or SP21316834 (Murderers Creek).
A reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest or citation in either case.
