The Blue Mountain Eagle has a small staff and a small circulation, but in the internet age, our reach can sometimes extend far beyond Grant County. Recently, for instance, Oregon Public Broadcasting has taken note of our work: Reporter Justin Davis was interviewed on the radio the week before last about his story on expansion plans for the Kam Wah Chung State Heritage Site, and this week it will be Steven Mitchell’s turn to talk about his story onĀ  changes in wolf management regulations. I like to take that as a sign that we’re punching above our weight. We may be small, but we have what it takes to do big stories.

In case you missed it, last week’s edition carried stories on a kindhearted state trooper who went above and beyond the call of duty to feed a busload of stranded high school basketball players, a Vietnam vet, a major remodeling at the John Day Golf Club and Grant Union’s still-unbeaten softball team.

Coming up this week, watch for stories on a high school student who helped raise a pile of money to fight breast cancer, the reopening of local senior centers to in-person activities, plans to repair the main road to the Grant County airport and a track meet featuring many of the region’s smaller schools.

As always, I want to take this opportunity to thank our subscribers for their support. We can’t do this work without you!
