Letter: Don’t let John Day fade away

To the Editor:

I grew up in John Day and since I still have family here, I try to make it back once a year. I have seen few new things get implemented in the last couple of years that are pretty neat and good for its residents. What troubles me is that this area is dying. When I lived there the population was three to four hundred more residents. There has been no effort to increase jobs or industry in this area. Prineville is thriving. Why can’t John Day?

I understand that people do not want it to turn into a huge or even somewhat smaller town, but the fact is this area will die if it continues on the path it is following. I really hope that doesn’t happen. It is a nice town and a wonderful place to visit and live. I hope the people who are in charge understand what they have been tasked with. With great power comes great responsibility … please don’t let John Day fade and die.
