I was born and raised in John Day, Oregon. I love this community and “lived” at the swimming pool when I was a youngster from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the summer (did go home for dinner). My dad, Chick Talbott (God rest his soul), swam every evening after work.
I believe everyone should be able to have a safe place with certified instructors to learn to swim. And yes, I may have used the pool when my children were young as a sanctuary for them in the summer when I worked, as I’m sure many others did also.
Will I use the new pool? Probably not, as I don’t do cold water. Am I willing to pay for others to have the option to swim? Yes! I am on a fixed income and truly believe the minimal cost per month is an asset to our children, their parents and their grandparents, as well as many children to come. I also believe it will be an asset for our local businesses and property owners for years to come. Vote yes for the swim pool!
