The election is over, but fallout from the unsuccessful bond measure to raise $4 million toward the cost of building a community swimming pool continues. A petition to recall John Day/Canyon City Parks and Recreation District board member Lisa Weigum, who emerged as the leading spokesperson for the effort to build the pool, has gained enough signatures to make the ballot. We’ll have an update on the upcoming recall election in this week’s edition of the Blue Mountain Eagle.
Other stories in this week’s paper will include reports on an underutilized home rehabilitation loan program, the crowning of the 2023 Grant County Fair & Rodeo Court and all-league honors for Grant County high school athletes.
In case you missed it, last week’s paper included stories on the pool bond’s defeat, turnover on the John Day City Council, Heather Rookstool’s election as John Day mayor and Scott Officer’s win in the Prairie City mayor’s race.
