Every time I start to feel like spring is right around the corner, along comes another storm like the one that dumped up to 9 inches of snow in parts of Grant County last week. March came in like a lion, as the saying goes, but so far is showing no signs of going out like a lamb! Oh, well. Sporing will get here in its own good time, and in the meanwhile, any addition to the snowpack up in the high country is good news for ranchers and, really, all of us in this drought-stricken part of the state.

In case you missed it, last week’s edition carried stories about a Firewise work party in Monument, the Grant School Board’s decision to keep Superintendent Louis Dix on for one more year, the start of Grant County budget hearings, the arrest of a sword-wielding woman in John Day and the Grant Union/Prairie City softball team, which appears poised for another stellar season.

In this week’s paper, look for stories on a fuels reduction project along county roads, Trades Day at the fairgrounds, Prairie City’s new pub and a truck vs. building collision. You’ll also find a special section filled with essays by local fifth-graders on how to make Grant County a better place to live.

As always, I want to take this opportunity to thank our subscribers for their support. We can’t do this work without you!
