It’s always exciting when local prep athletes qualify for postseason competition. As the Eagle’s Justin Davis reported on our website last week, the Grant Union/Prairie City baseball team started their 2023 postseason run with a 4-2 win over Irrigon on Tuesday, May 9, and were slated to take on Heppner/Ione on Friday, May 12, as this note was being written.

The Grant Union/Prairie City softball team, which finished second in the state last year, appears poised for another strong postseason run this year.

Local track teams are gearing up for their district tournaments and hoping to qualify for the postseason.

And freshman phenom Sawyer Quinton, the star of the newly revived Prairie City golf team, won the district tournament by an astonishing 34 strokes to qualify for state.

Keep an eye on the Blue Mountain Eagle as we continue to cover the exploits of all our local high school athletes.

In case you missed it, last week’s edition of the Eagle included stories on a proposed fire protection assessment increase from the Oregon Department of Forestry, a fundraiser for John Day businesses damaged in the April 17 fire, a local art teacher, a half-million dollars in wildfire prevention grants coming to Grant County and more.
