If you missed Grape & Grain, the Grant County Chamber of Commerce’s annual beer and wine festival at the fairgrounds pavilion on Friday night, you missed a good time. For the $25 admission fee, you got a commemorative beer or wine glass plus a bagful of tokens to spend on beverage tastings or goodies at the vendor tables. Along with the entry fee came a tasty meal of pulled-pork sliders, potato salad and beans, toe-tapping tunes from the James Gang and an assortment of vendor booths to browse. I sampled some fine brews from Side A, Tiger Town and 1188 (which is hoping to reopen next month after cleaning up the damage from the April 17 fire), enjoyed some great conversation and came home with some lip-smacking Juan’s Salsa. Here’s hoping the chamber brings this event back again next year!
In case you missed it, last week’s edition of the Eagle included stories on an innovative day care program at Dayville School that other schools in the county are looking to follow, security upgrades at area schools, rape charges against a John Day man, the revival of the Prairie City golf team and more.
Coming up in this week’s paper, you’ll find stories about all the contested races for seats on the Grant School Board (already available online), a wolf moving through the area (also up now on our website), changes in the Grant County Health Department, plans for a new school resource officer, coverage of high school sports and more.
