Circuit Court

The Grant County Circuit Court reported the following activity for the week ending May 31:

May 31

Jessica Anne Shawn-Thomas, 39, of Prairie City pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault constituting domestic violence, resisting arrest, harassment and third-degree criminal mischief in connection with an incident that occurred on May 20. An additional count of assaulting a public safety officer was dismissed. Shawn-Thomas was given a suspended sentence, placed on two years of supervised probation and ordered to complete 50 hours of community service or work crew time. Among other conditions of her probation, she must attend a batterer’s intervention program, obtain a substance abuse evaluation and complete all recommended treatment, and may not use or possess intoxicants. In addition, she was sentenced to 140 days in jail with credit for time served and the possibility of day-for-day credit if she completes a 90-day inpatient treatment program. As a result of her guilty plea, Shawn-Thomas’ probation in a previous case was revoked. She was ordered to serve an additional 65 days in jail, with the sentence to run concurrently with that for her most recent conviction.
