Flag Day observance

In honor of Flag Day, the Elks Lodge will hold a “ceremony of retreat,” performed by local veterans. The ceremony includes 12 folds of the flag, each with a particular significance that will be explained during the observance. The public is invited to attend. And since Flag Day coincides with Taco Tuesday, tacos will be served at 6 p.m.

Grant County Health Fair

This 26th annual event includes a number of health screens, including free breast exams and free dermatological skin checks. For $35, attendees can get a blood draw to test for a full range of general health markers, including a complete blood panel, complete metabolic panel, and TSH and lipid levels. Preregister online at bluemountainhospital.org or at the gift shop inside the hospital, 170 Ford Road in John Day, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 12 and 14. Scholarships are available.

This annual 5k run and walk, sponsored by the Strawberry Striders, is part of the ‘62 Days Celebration. This fourth annual event is a major fundraiser for Thadd’s Place, the nonprofit grief support center in John Day.
