JOHN DAY — All-league awards have been announced for Special District 6 softball and Special District 7 baseball, and it should come as no surprise that the state champion Grant Union/Prairie City softball team and state tournament-qualifying baseball team have players all throughout the lineups.

In softball, Special District 6 Player of the Year honors went to Savannah Watterson. Lady Pro ace pitcher Drew Williams picked up Pitcher of the Year honors for the district as well.

First team all-league honors went to Addy Northway at catcher, Raney Anderson at first base, Halle Parsons and Sivanna Hodge as infielders and Reece Jacobs in the outfield.

All-league second team honors went to Lilly Rockhill in the outfield. Graduating senior Laken McKay earned an honorable mention as an outfielder.

The awards are the latest set of honors for the team, which went 26-3 on the season and captured the Class 2A state softball championship in a 10-0 rout of league foe Weston-McEwen/Griswold on Friday, June 2, in Eugene.

On the baseball diamond, the Pros had six players selected to the Special District 7 all-league first team. Sheldon Lenz and Lukas Blood were selected to the all-league first team as infielders.

Eric Culley and Ryland Beil were both selected to the first team as outfielders. Talon VanCleave makes an appearance as a catcher for the first team, and Riddick Hutchison rounded out the first team selections, making the lineup as a designated hitter.

The Pros were well represented on the all-league second team as well, with four selections. Trevor Gabbard at first base, Weston Suchorski in the infield, Syrus Workman in the outfield and Baryn Huerta in the role of utility player were all selected to the all-league second team.

The Grant Union baseball team finished 19-6 on the season, winning one game in the state playoffs before being defeated 3-0 by eventual state runners-up Blanchet Catholic.
