JOHN DAY — The POW-MIA Highway 26 Memorial Ride will be passing through Grant County this weekend, and local residents are invited to turn out and show their support.

Organized by the Oregon Veterans Motorcycle Association, the fourth annual event features U.S. military veterans and active service members riding their motorcycles across the state on Highway 26, beginning in Seaside and finishing in Ontario. In 2019, the Legislature designated the Oregon stretch of U.S. 26 the POW-MIA Memorial Highway.

Members of the Oregon Veterans Motorcycle Association will be reading from the biographies of the state’s prisoners of war and service members listed as missing in action from the Vietnam era. Gold Star families are invited to join the group at any stop along the way.

The convoy will roll through Grant County on Sunday, June 25. Riders are expected to pass through the Picture Gorge between 10:15 and 10:30 a.m. and should arrive in John Day about 11:15. After stopping for lunch at the John Day Elks Lodge, the procession will get back on the road about 12:55 p.m. for the final leg of the trip to Ontario.
