Grant Union/Prairie City softball players named to all-state team

JOHN DAY — Win a state championship, and chances are you will have an assortment of players named to the all-state team.

That’s the way things worked out for the Grant Union/Prairie City softball team, which placed seven players on the OSAA 1A/2A all-state softball team.

Both Drew Williams and Savannah Watterson were named to the all state team along with picking up individual honors.

Williams made the all-state first team a pitcher and was named the Pitcher of the Year in Class 1A/2A softball. Watterson was named to the first team as an infielder wile also being named the 1A/2A Co-Player of the Year, along with Jenna Hopkins of Kennedy.

Grant Union/Prairie City catcher Addy Northway found a spot on the all-state first team, as did outfielder Reece Jacobs. Infielder Halle Parsons rounded out the Lady Prospectors named to the all-state first team.

Two Lady Pros made appearances on the all-state second team. Raney Anderson was named to the team as a first baseman, and Sivanna Hodge made the squad as an infielder.

Capping off all-state honors for the team was coach Zach Williams, who was named Class 1A/2A softball coach of the year for the 2023 season.
