Grant County youths show skills at 4-H Dog Show

JOHN DAY — Three local youths put their dog-training skills to the test in the annual 4-H Dog Show, held Aug. 4 in the Sales Barn at the Grant County. After a year of working with their animals under the tutelage of 4-H dog leader Maggie Justice, the club members went head to head in two categories: dog showmanship and dog obedience.

In the showmanship category, Keira Stiner and her dog Pearl took home the title of grand champion, followed by Cosette Klusmier and Buddy, who took reserve grand champion honors, and Kathlyne Page and her dog Joy.
In the obedience competition, Stiner and Pearl were awarded champion and grand champion obedience titles in the novice dog obedience category.
In the pre-novice dog obedience category, Page and Joy earned champion and reserve grand champion honors while Klusmier and Buddy took the reserve champion title.

Grant County 4-H officials say they hope to sign up more participants for next year’s dog project. 4-H registration begins Oct. 1.
