Circuit Court

The Grant County Circuit Court reported the following activity for the week ending Sept. 6:

Sept. 5

Shane Rickie Combs, 43, of John Day, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of harassment. He was placed on two years of bench probation and ordered to perform 40 hours of community service or work crew time, complete a Moral Reconation Therapy program, have no contact with the victim and pay $1,250 in fines and fees.

Rodney A. Rookstool, 62, of Prairie City, pleaded guilty to reckless driving, reckless endangerment and passing in a no-passing zone. A second count of reckless endangerment and a count of failure to perform the duties of a driver in an accident were dismissed. He was given a suspended sentence, placed on 18 months of bench probation and ordered to pay $765 in fines and restitution. In addition, Rookstool was ordered to complete 80 hours of community service or work crew time, complete a safe driving course and have no contact with the victims.

Brayden Michael Breyett, no age or hometown listed, was found guilty of probation violation for failing to complete treatment, failing to pay financial obligations and failure to complete community service work. He was sentenced to 48 hours in jail with credit for time served and his probation was extended through the end of the year.

Denzel Ray Morgan, 60, of Bend, pleaded guilty to one count of criminal driving while suspended or revoked. He was given a suspended sentence and will be on bench probation for one year. he was also ordered to perform 120 hours of community service of work crew time and pay a $1,000 fine.

Bobby Lee Ruston, 46, of Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault and harassment constituting domestic violence. An additional count of fourth-degree assault was dismissed. He was given a suspended sentence and placed on supervised probation for 18 months. He was also ordered to serve 20 days in jail, complete 80 hours of community service or work crew time, complete a Moral Reconation Therapy program, obtain a domestic violence assessment and a substance abuse assessment within 20 days and complete all recommended treatment. If Ruston fails to complete the assessments within 20 days, 10 additional days of jail time will be added to his sentence.
