Circuit Court

The Grant County Circuit Court reported the following activity for the week ending Sept. 13:

Sept. 12

Jeremiah Obadaai Gwalthney, 45, of John Day, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of strangulation constituting domestic violence committed on Aug. 26. He was placed on supervised probation for 18 months and was ordered to complete 80 hours of community service or work crew time, have no contact with the victim, not use or possess intoxicants, and pay a fine of $100. In a separate case, Gwalthney pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of assault in the fourth degree committed on Dec. 30. He was ordered to complete 80 hours of community service or work crew time, have no contact with the victim, and not use or possess intoxicants. The sentence will run concurrent with the previous case. Gwalthney was also convicted of a probation violation on a third case for consuming intoxicants and failure to obey all laws and was ordered to serve 10 hours of additional community service.

Christopher Conner, 31, of Prairie City, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct in the second degree committed on June 17. He was ordered to serve a jail sentence for 48 hours.

Timothy Alan Edwards Jr., 31, of John Day, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of intoxicants committed on Aug. 26, 2021. He was ordered to serve bench probation for 12 months, complete an alcohol and drug abuse assessment within 30 days, attend a victim impact panel program, stay out of bars, not use intoxicants, and pay a $1,000 fine. Edwards was also convicted of a probation violation. He was ordered to serve a jail term of 96 hours with the sentence to run concurrently with his DUII case.
