Grant County football goes 2-1
GRANT COUNTY — All three Grant County prep football teams were on the road on Friday, Sept. 22, with one squad remaining unbeaten and the other two sitting at .500 just before the halfway mark of the season.
The Grant Union Prospectors improved to 2-2 following a dominant 42-6 win over non-league foe McLoughlin in Milton-Freewater. The lopsided win is the second in a row for the Pros following a six-point victory over Nyssa last week.
The Dayville/Monument/Long Creek Tigers fell to 1A Special District 1 powerhouse South Wasco County 55-26 to drop to 2-2 on the season. The loss was the second consecutive defeat for the Tigers following last week’s lopsided loss to Prairie City/Burnt River.
The Prairie City/Burnt River Panthers traveled to Echo and left with a 45-26 league win to remain perfect on the season. The Panthers sit at 4-0 and will likely use their bye week to prepare for a massive showdown with defending state champions Spray/Mitchell/Wheeler at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, in Prairie City.
The Pros will look to get above .500 for the first time this season when they travel to Athena to take on Weston-McEwen/Griswold on Friday, Sept. 29. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Dayville/Monument/Long Creek Tigers will travel to Mitchell to take on the Spray/Mitchell/Wheeler football squad on Friday, Sept 29. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
