Riverside/Ione 44 — Grant Union 22
The Grant Union Prospector football team traveled to Boardman for a league game with Riverside/Ione and fell short, losing 44-22. The team is now 2-5 on the season with an 0-3 league record. The Pros will look to get their first league win when they host Stanfield on Thursday, Oct. 19. Kickoff is scheduled for 9 p.m.
South Wasco County 46 — Prairie City/Burnt River 38
The Prairie City/Burnt River football team traveled to Maupin on Saturday, Oct. 14, for a highly anticipated matchup with league powerhouse South Wasco County and suffered a close 46-38 defeat. The teams are both ranked in the Top 10 in current OSAA standings and may very well meet again in the state playoffs. The Panthers have their league playoff to navigate in the meantime. The High Desert League playoff will get underway on Friday, Oct. 20, with a time and opponent to be determined.
Lady Pros 2-0 in road trip
The Grant Union volleyball team played a pair of matches in Enterprise on Saturday, Oct. 14, and look to be in postseason form following a pair of lopsided wins.
The first match was a 3-0 sweep of host Enterprise with game scores of 25-9, 25-21 and 25-10.
The second match was a 3-1 victory over Heppner that also took place at Enterprise High School. Game scores for that match were 27-25, 25-20, 20-25 and 25-14.
The pair of wins were the Lady Prospectors’ seventh and eighth in the last 10 matches and put them at 21-6 on the season with a 9-1 league record. The fifth-ranked Lady Pros will begin their district tournament on Saturday, Oct. 21. Details are still to be determined.
Girls soccer falls to Echo/Stanfield
The Grant Union girls soccer team went on the road to battle Echo/Stanfield on Saturday, Oct. 14, and fell by a score of 10-0. The team is now 0-12 in its inaugural season and will have one more chance to get that elusive first win when the Lady Pros host Umatilla on Friday, Oct. 20, in their season finale. Start time is 6:30 p.m.
Lady Panthers down Huntington for third straight win
The Prairie City/Burnt River volleyball team defeated Huntington 3-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 17, for their its straight win headed into the High Desert League tournament. Game scores were 25-6, 25-13 and 25-8.
The Lady Panthers have worked their way to a No. 10 state ranking, standing at 15-8 on the season with a 4-2 league record. Next up for the squad is a matchup with Dayville/Monument/Long Creek on Tuesday, Oct. 17, before the High Desert League tournament kicks off in Crane on Saturday, Oct. 21.
Lady Tigers drop two for ninth straight loss
The Dayville/Monument/Long Creek volleyball team fell to Grant Union’s JV squad on Wednesday, Oct. 11, and was overpowered by Pilot Rock two days later.
The match against Grant Union was competitive, with game scores of 17-25, 25-15, 25-13, 13-25 and 15-8.
Game scores against Pilot Rock were 25-5, 25-19, 20-25 and 26-24. The Lady Tigers are now 1-15 on the season with a 1-5 record in league play.
