Stanfield 54 —
Grant Union 26The Grant Union football team had one of their best offensive efforts of the season but ultimately fell to league rival Stanfield 54-26 on Thursday, Oct. 19, at Grant Union High School. The loss puts the Prospectors at 2-6 on the year with an 0-4 league mark.
The Pros have one more game on their regular season schedule, a date with Heppner on Friday, Oct. 27. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Dayville/Monument/Long Creek 25 — Jordan Valley 6The Dayville/Monument/Long Creek football team played their final game of the 2023 season, corralling the Mustangs of Jordan Valley 25-6 in a league crossover game on Saturday, Oct. 21, at Dayville High School. The Tigers finished 2023 with a 3-4 record along with a 1-4 league mark.
Prairie City/Burnt River 32 — Harper Charter 19
The Prairie City/Burnt River football team found itself in a dogfight with Harper Charter before a fourth quarter touchdown put the game away, giving the Panthers a 32-19 league playoff victory on Friday, Oct. 20, in Prairie City.
The Panthers end the regular season as the No. 1- ranked team in 1A six-man football, sporting a 6-1 record along with a 3-1 mark in the High Desert League. The Panthers’ first opponent in the 2023 OSAA football playoffs is still to be determined.
Grant Union 3 — Stanfield 1
The Grant Union Lady Prospector volleyball team is your 2023 Blue Mountain District volleyball champion. The Lady Pros picked up the district crown following a dominant 3-1 victory over Stanfield in the Blue Mountain District championship match at Grant Union High School on Saturday, Oct. 21.
Game scores for the match were 21-25, 25-15, 25-12 and 25-21.
The Lady Pros finished the 2023 regular season campaign as the fifth-ranked team in 2A volleyball, with an overall record of 22-7 along with a stellar 9-1 league mark.
The Lady Pros will be in action again at the OSAA 2A state volleyball tournament, which gets underway on Saturday, Oct. 28. Their first opponent is still to be determined. The quarterfinal round will start on Friday, November 3 at Ridgeview High School in Redmond.
Umatilla 4 — Grant Union 0
The Grant Union girls soccer team played the final game of its inaugural season on Friday, Oct. 20, at Grant Union High School, playing one of the team’s more competitive games of the year in a 4-0 loss to Umatilla. In a testament to how much the team has improved over the course of the year, the Lady Pros last played Umatilla on Sept. 26 and suffered a lopsided 9-2 loss.
The team finished 2023 with a record of 1-13 with an identical 1-13 league record.
