- Samni Bell, with the Strawberry Mountain Quilt Guild, stands by a quilt she made at the Best of the Old West Quilt Show inside Trowbridge Pavilion at the Grant County Fairgrounds. Bell helped organize the annual event, which ran Oct. 20 and 21, 2023.
This week’s edition of the Blue Mountain Eagle will feature a story on a convicted child molester who could be released from prison early because his conviction was based in part on a non-unanimous jury verdict. That practice, which was allowed for many years in Oregon and Louisiana but not in any other states, is no longer legal in the wake of recent court rulings.
Also this week, look for stories on John Day’s new city manager, a spooky house in Prairie City, a fundraiser for a young man with a rare heart condition, plans to clean up a derelict house, playoff runs by local prep volleyball teams and more.
In case you missed it, last week’s paper included an update on the October 2022 arrest of a Forest Service burn boss while supervising a prescribed burn in Grant County, plus stories on the Harvest Festival and Best of the Old West Quilt Show, plans for a seismic survey on the Grant County Emergency Operations Center, a foiled shooting plot in Deschutes County, the renaming of Grant Union’s gym for the late Dean Nodine and more.
