Letter: Destroying history imperils our future

To the Editor:

Those are those who object to the term “mother” and prefer “childbearing human.” It is sexist to be labeled as he or she.

But wait, there’s more! Since approximately the year 530, the eras were defined as A.D. and B.C., which are interpreted as anno Domini (in the year of our Lord/Christian era) and before Christ. Now there are those who want to emphasize Christian neutrality and refer to those eras as Common Era (C.E.) and before the Common Era (B.C.E.).

Whichever you decide to call the current era, it will be identified as one in which there are those that find our history offensive and try to destroy memorials depicting events that formed the basis of our nation. At what point will the “silent majority” stop tolerating those who want to destroy our history and all that our ancestors stood, fought and died for? What is next on the list for attack? Christmas?

A future can be built on what came before, but to tear down the very basis of our existence ruins all credibility for the most basic intelligence.
