Holiday bazaars slated for Grant County

GRANT COUNTY — The holidays are coming, and organizations throughout Grant County are gearing up for their annual Christmas bazaars.

They’re all a little bit different, but most have food for sale, many are fundraisers to benefit worthy causes, and all have a wide variety of vendors selling a delightful assortment of gift items. Whoever you’re shopping for this holiday season, you should be able to find something for them at one of these community events.
Here’s a list of upcoming bazaars around the county:
United Methodist Christmas Sale
• 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 8 and 9, and 9-11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10 (free day), John Day United Methodist Church, 126 NW Canton St.
This three-day holiday sale kicks off the bazaar season in Grant County with a variety of Christmas-themed items available for purchase, from trees and ornaments to clothes, linens and stuffed animals. Special note to bargain hunters: Everything left on Friday is free. Information: 541-575-1326.
Mt. Vernon Grange Christmas Bazaar
• 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, Mt. Vernon Grange, 59491 Highway 26, Mt. Vernon
Mt. Vernon offers two holiday bazaars on the same day. This one is an annual fundraiser for the Mt. Vernon Grange. Vendors will be selling a variety of gift items, from local honey to handcrafted furniture. Hot stew, soup, rolls, coffee and pies will be available for purchase. Information: 541-620-0493.
Mt. Vernon Community Hall Christmas Bazaar
• 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 640 Ingle St., Mt. Vernon
Mt. Vernon’s other bazaar is in part a benefit for the volunteer fire department’s holiday food basket program. Pie sales will help purchase food items for distribution to local families in need, and a fireman’s boot will be on hand for cash donations. Christmas shoppers will find a broad selection of handcrafted gift items for sale, including woodcarvings, soaps, Christmas ornaments, jewelry and fiber goods. Cinnamon rolls, walking tacos and other treats will be available for purchase, with biscuits and gravy for the early birds. Information: 541-620-4320.
American Legion Auxiliary Holiday Bazaar
• 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, cafeteria, Prairie City School, 740 Overholt St., Prairie City
This bazaar is part of Christmas on the Prairie, Prairie City’s annual yuletide blowout. In addition to lots of vendor booths, there will be plenty of food available, with cinnamon rolls in the morning and a lunch hosted by the Prairie City High School girls basketball team. Hospital Auxiliary Bazaar
• 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, Trowbridge Pavilion, Grant County Fairgrounds, 411 NW Bridge St., John Day
The Blue Mountain Hospital Auxiliary hosts this annual bazaar, which features a large assortment of gift items, many of them handcrafted. Breakfast, lunch and pie will be available for purchase, and visitors can take photos with Santa (bring your own camera) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Information: 541-792-0958.
Grant County Farmers Market Holiday Bazaar
• 3-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, Trowbridge Pavilion, Grant County Fairgrounds, 411 NW Bridge St., John Day
Handcrafted items, wood carvings, Christmas decorations, baked goods and more will fill the Trowbridge Pavilion for this event. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Information: 541-620-3152.
Monument Winter Bazaar
• 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, Monument Senior Center, 269 Main St., Monument
Vendors will be selling a variety of merchandise, the senior center will be selling coffee and maple bars, local emergency medical technicians will be hosting lunch. And to top it all off, there will be an ugly sweater contest. Information: 541-934-2244 or 541-934-2001.
Dayville Winter Bazaar• 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, Dayville Community Hall, Highway 26, downtown Dayville
Scheduled a little more than a week before Christmas, this bazaar is the one for last-minute shoppers. A full complement of local vendors will be selling a variety of handcrafted goods, from wood carvings to jewelry to clothing and more. Food will be available for purchase. Information: 541-620-1630.
