The Prairie City High School cheerleaders will screen a Christmas movie to kick off Christmas on the Prairie. Admission is $5, and food and drink will be available for purchase.
SATURDAY, NOV. 18
Christmas on the Prairie
• 9 a.m.-6 p.m., various locations, Prairie City
Prairie City’s annual holiday celebration returns with the theme of “Woodland Christmas.” The American Legion Auxiliary Holiday Bazaar runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the cafeteria at Prairie City School. At 10:30 a.m., there will be a snowball drop on Main Street near Depot Park, and the DeWitt Museum and Sumpter Valley Railroad will host a free day. Children’s activities begin at noon at the Prairie City Community Center with a Christmas program, followed by Santa’s arrival at 1 p.m. At 4:30 p.m., Santa will officially kick off the holiday season by lighting the city center tree. A Fine Wine and Holiday Signs painting party starts at 5 p.m. at the community center; $65 covers all materials and something to sip on. A woodland ornament hunt will take place throughout the day, along with judging of the school art contest. Information: 208-791-4817.
Trap shoot fundraiser
• 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Brad and Julie Smith’s B Bar J Ranch, Highway 402, milepost 9, Monument
This event is a fundraiser to help cover travel and other expenses for Rowdy Israel in her role as queen of the Spray Rodeo. There will be clay pigeon shoots for men, women and children. Cost is $3 per round, and prizes will be awarded. There will be a hot chocolate bar with food available, a live auction at 1 p.m., a silent auction concluding at 3 p.m., and a dessert auction.

The Elks will host a free Thanksgiving dinner for the whole community, with turkey, ham, all the traditional side dishes and dessert. Grant County residents are invited to dine in or pick up a boxed meal to go.
