Grant Union boys 80 — Griswold 12The Grant Union boys basketball team improved to 2-0 on the young season following an 80-12 drubbing of Griswold on Saturday, Dec. 2, in Helix. The second-ranked Prospectors will be in action again Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 7-9, when they travel to Umatilla for the Columbia River Clash.
Grant Union girls 48 — Griswold 30
The Grant Union girls basketball team rebounded from their season-opening loss to Prairie City/Burnt River with an 18-point non-league road win over Griswold on Saturday, Dec. 2. The Lady Pros are now .500 on the season at 1-1 and will be in action next at the Columbia River Clash in Umatilla on Thursday, Dec. 7, though Saturday, Dec. 9.
Panther basketball goes 2-0 in CoveThe Prairie City/Burnt River boys basketball team improved to 2-1 following a pair of double-digit victories at the Living Water Irrigation Mt. Fanny Classic at Cove High School on Friday, Dec. 1, and Saturday, Dec. 2.
The Panthers’ first victory was a 35-22 win over Wallowa on Friday. The team’s second victory in the tournament was a dominant 61-32 win over Pine Eagle the following day.
Prairie City/Burnt River will play another pair of tournament games at the Calvin Hiatt Memorial Basketball Tournament in Powder Valley on Friday, Dec. 8, and Saturday, Dec. 9.
The game on Friday will be a non-league matchup with Powder Valley that is slated to get underway at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Panthers will match up with Enterprise in a non-league game that is scheduled to tip off at 1:30 p.m.
Lady Panthers break even in CoveThe Prairie City/Burnt River girls basketball team finished the two-day Cove Tournament at 1-1 to improve their record to 2-1 through three games.
The first game, played on Friday, Dec. 1, was a 37-24 non-league defeat to Wallowa that had the team sitting at 1-1 on the season. The Lady Panthers would climb above .500 following their next game on Saturday, Dec. 2, a close 37-33 win over Pine Eagle.
The Lady Panthers will seek their next wins during a pair of tournament games at the Calvin Hiatt Memorial Basketball Tournament at Powder Valley High School on Friday, Dec. 8, and Saturday, Dec. 9.
Their first game of the invitational will be a non-league matchup with Powder Valley at 6 p.m. Friday. Their second game on Saturday, Dec. 9, will also be a non-league contest, this time against Enterprise. Tipoff for that game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
Long Creek loses season opener to CraneThe co-ed Long Creek basketball team fell 86-27 in its season opener against league foe Crane on Saturday, Dec. 2, in Crane. The Mountaineers will be in action next on Saturday, Dec. 16, when they welcome Four Rivers out of Ontario to town. Tipoff for that game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
