Letter: Cancel culture alive and well

To the Editor:

For years, the once-tolerant left has become weaponized. If they disagree with you or don’t like you, the cancel culture monster rears its ugly head. The endless efforts by the left to get rid of former president Trump are a prime example. They have been going after him ever since he came down the escalator. Pounding him with made-up and baseless accusations.

This philosophy has made its way to Grant County. The current attempt to recall our mayor is the example. I believe Heather’s head and heart are in the right place. Certain members of the city council have thrown up roadblocks, and on top of that this city is such a mess that we can’t even get a city manager to stay around here.

She has been burdened with that. What an embarrassment. I believe that she is trying to right the ship in John Day. Her enemies are simply trying to get rid of her because they don’t like her. They are so busy trying to cancel her that other problems in town are taking a back seat.

I read their statement against her. It is nothing more than a personal attack with nothing to back it up. I would urge the citizens of John Day think about what is best for the community before casting your vote.
